There is a message board dedicated to the R1900 here:Īnd a comprehensive review of the printer here: (Although the page the link above will take you to says the rebate is only Valid from 04/01/08 through 04/07/08, the rebate form linked just below that notice says it's good through 04/30/08, or at least that's the case as of this moment. By the way, the rebate's still good, although it's not publicized on the site, and you may find it here: Never had anything like those problems on my R1800, which is why I came within a hair's breadth of ordering a 1900 earlier this month when the $100 rebate was offered. I've been following this printer since its release, having been a (mostly) satisfied owner of an R800, then an R1800. Time will tell and I will be sure to keep you all posted! Again I will say though that the print quality is absolutely amazing and if I did not have those initial problems, I would be in printer 7th heaven right now. What I mean is, WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE? The cartridges that came with the printer were air-tight sealed! My concerns are obvious: 1. What is more, I am hoping that the experience is over. I will say this: This printer is absolutely AMAZING! It is easily the best printer I have owned, and I've owned quite a few, from Epsons to Canons to HPs. I will receive them 5 to 7 business days.

They confirmed my purchase date, got my serial number and promised to FedEx me a whole new set of cartridges. I told them what I just told you and e-mailed them the screenshot. So I called up Epson technical support this morning. And since it was on the weekend, Epson tech support was not available. I tried removing and reseating all the cartridges but the levels remained the same. The diagram showing my ink levels made me gasp!! (I included a screenshot of it below) Every single cartridge EXCEPT for the PK which gave me trouble at first, showed below 50% AND I HAVEN'T EVEN PRINTED 1 PRINT YET! NOT EVEN A TEST!!! I launched the Epson Printer Utility and clicked on the Epson Status Monitor. I wanted to do this so that I could monitor how much ink the printer uses as I go along. FOUND IT!! But I thought, before I print this picture, let me fire up the Epson Printer Utility to check the ink levels.

(I timed it) I happily (and eagerly) scanned my Aperture library, looking for the first picture I would print. The charging process completed in the 3 minutes the instructions said it would take. Well, I removed and reseated all the cartridges that had little red lights on them and reinitiated the charging process and FINALLY it began and all was well!!!. but then the printer stopped and reported errors on 4 other (Red, Matte Black, Orange and CYAN). I reseated the cartridge and it seemed that that resolved the problem because the charging seemed to begin. So I pulled the cartridge out and cleaned the leads with a q-tip with a tiny drop of alcohol on it. The printer did it's little thing and reported the same error over the PK cartridge.

So I removed the cartridge and reseated it. So I surmised that the printer was not charging the cartridges because it couldn't get beyond the PK error.

From my experience with high end HP plotters, I recognized this as a badly installed or broken cartridge. So I opened up the lid and saw there was a little red light over the PK (Photo Black) cartridge. and waited : ( and waited, but nothing seemed to be happening and the light on the printer kept blinking. The instructions said that it will take about 3 minutes. I then pressed the ink button to charge the newly installed ink cartridges. I followed the instructions (which I normally never do) and it was seamless.

I am a Mac user, and as can be expected, the setup was a breeze! It was recommended in the instructions that the drivers be installed after the cartridges are installed into the printer. Well, I did it and would like to share my first thoughts. As some of you may know from a few posts, I purchased the R1900 last week and was waiting for this past weekend to finally set it up.
